Event objective

The conference was organised to bring together representatives from public libraries and schools to showcase the project pilot case studies from their sectors, while also providing an opportunity for attendees to exchange examples of information literacy good practice. The project officers were also able to facilitate discussions how the aims and ethos of the CyMAL steered project could be made sustainable beyond the sessation of the project in march 2014.

Speakers included:

  • Mandy Powell - CILIP Wales
  • Sioned Jones, Literacy co-ordinator Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi/Holyhead High School:  Entry level Information Literacy to support Literacy skills with Year 7.
  • Erica Sheppard-Aldecoa, Information Literacy Champion, Monmouthshire Public Libraries:  Staff Information Literacy training in Monmouthshire public libraries - a personal view.
  • Lisa Thomas, Information and Computer Services Manager Caerphilly County Borough Council: ‘Digital by Desire, not Default’ and the Digital Friday project in Caerphilly Public Libraries
  • Philomena Vaughan, Internal Verifier Agored Cymru, Monmouthshire Adult Community Education: Verifying formal qualifications in Information Literacy.
